Am Namusobya Joy Sophia 12/U/11674/PS one of the members of BSE Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in software engineering.
For one to complete and be awarded a degree in software engineering,
One of the requirements is coming up with a complete final year project.
I will share what we as a group have done and particularly what I have done towards the completion of the project.
CONCEPT PAPER
We met as a group at
the beginning of the semester to brainstorm through all possible
ideas that we are to work on and every one presented a different
idea.
After presenting
several ideas. We decided to take up E-coli bacteria detection system .The
automated E.coli bacteria detector system covers a geographical area spanning
community centers and other areas where there is need for full water safety or
where there is need to improve critical water treatment systems.
The system detects methane gas that indicates the
presence of E-coli bacteria. The system is meant to measure gas levels and
concentration in water and thereafter relay the information to the user to warn
them. We were sure of where to obtain
firsthand information on which we could base to analyze the depth and effect of
the problem.
We had a better understanding
of the problem we knew we would be able to clearly to solve it.
We started working on
the concept paper which was approved by our supervisor.
PROPOSAL
WRITING
With the proposal I majorly did the literature review and system
objectives as below,
E. coli
can cause diarrhea, urinary tract infections, respiratory illness, and
bloodstream infections. Other kinds of E.
coli are used as markers for water contamination. E. coli being
found in contaminated drinking water with faecal contamination
The
symptoms of E.coli infections include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea (often
bloody), and vomiting and fever. These are serious or even life-threatening
The
main objective is to develop a system that shall detect the presence of Escherichia Coli bacteria in water using
methane gas as an indicator that is given off by contaminated water either by
animal waste or human waste. .And
there after send notifications to the mobile user using a GSM Module. The
system user will be able to know whether water is safe for use or not
I
reviewed related systems and critically analyzed their weaknesses and strengths
and found out why these systems are not widely used at the moment. System
examples include,
Automated Microfiltration to Purify GFP-His
was developed to detect the presence E.coli bacteria in contaminated water
However the system was scientific and required a lot of scientific knowledge
and was time consuming and required a lot of labor.
Another
system was a biosensor system was developed to detect bacterial concentration
in products so that it does not exceeds the limits allowed by the law. The
system was dedicated to measuring the sample electrical characteristics,
The biosensor system bacterial concentration detection based
on the technology requires no particular knowledge of microbiological
techniques. It was suitable for microbial screening in industrial and
commercial environments. However this method was slow and
expensive.
The
existing systems that detect E.coli bacteria are not mobile and they are
expensive to use hence less efficient.
REQUIREMENTS DOCUMENT WRITING
I designed the interview
questions with a special
focus on the different stakeholders like Individual end users,
Health centers, National water Sewage Corporation involved at every stage
of water consumption so as to find valuable amounts of data that we could base
on to find the effect of this bacteria. I also did the citations as a
conclusion to the document.
REPORT
In the report I did section 4 of the report
that majorly deals with the thorough testing of the system before installation.
Inspections where carried out on code and reports to ensure that good
programming practices are followed. I
framed a test plan and executed to monitor the performance of the system.
Secondly,
the test objectives were defined in detail. Thereafter the safety measures to
be followed while using the system and limitations to the system performance I
defined therein.
